Core Support

NDIS takes a goals-based approach to provide core supports of funding and services. This means that the services available will vary depending on your individual situation and goals. NDIS Core Supports consists of four core supports funding categories that help you develop foundational life skills, such as daily activities and community participation.

The four NDIS core supports categories are:

Assistance with daily life:
Assistance with daily life is a core supports budget item that is designed to allow the participants to lives as independently as possible – in your own home or out in the community. Support helps you with the following:

  • Make decisions for households
  • Develop self-care skills such as bathing
  • Prepare meals
  • Undertake domestic duties

Accessing transport:
Accessing transport provide score support budget to cover transport costs associated with specialised schooling or education programs, reaching your place of employment, or participating in other community or recreational activities.

Accessing consumables:
Consumables are core supports funding that covers the cost of everyday items and services related to your disability. Consumables could include the following things:

  • Interpreting and translation devices
  • Continence items, such as nappies and pull-ups
  • Home enteral nutrition
  • Food and swallowing equipment, such as water syringes

Assistance with community participation:
Assistance with social and community participation provides a core support budget that helps the participants engage in social or recreational activities and become more involved in their local community. These could include the following:

  • Art classes
  • Sports (bowling, lawn balls)
  • Community recreation activities
